This is one of the earliest planisheres Boucher (1889-1971) created for Air France, a company he was associated with for over 25 years.

Jacques Auriac was a maestro of advertising posters for major brands representative of post-war industrial expansion. This is Auriac’s 2nd undertaking for Bally. His 1st in 1963 led to a lucrative commission with Bata (a Bally rival!).

In 1997 the Bibliotheque Forney in Paris held a retrospective exhibition in the honour of Herve Morvan ’posterist’. This poster was used to advertise the spectacular gathering of the artists advertising and movie posters.

Cappiello built a career on posters that surprised, shocked and delighted the public for over 40 years and this piece for Cognac Pellisson is no exception with a little fellow struggling under the weight of an oversized barrel of the fine cognac.

A golden rooster dressed in slippers leads a procession of theatrical characters on to the stage of the Russian Art Theatre being watched from behind the curtain by a menacing looking Anatole Dolinoff, the creator of the theatre.

Jean D’Ylen (1866-1938) was a designer of jewellery prior to becoming a fulltime posterist in 1919 with the printing house made famous by Leonetto Cappiello,Vercasson. This massive billboard poster is advertising a brand of braces, belts and ties.

Bibendum (aka Bib the Michelin Man) was created in 1898 by French artist O’Galop (pseudonym Marius Rossillon) after it was noticed that a display of stacked tyres resembled a human form.

Michelin developed the radial tyre in 1946 which they called Michelin X. This new innovation added layers of other materials to the rubber to strengthen and stabilse the tyres. Obviously the Bibendum is enjoying the comfort of the ride! (Framed).

Alfredo Muller was born in Livorno, Italy in 1869. Like many artists of his time he travelled to Paris in his early 20’s to pursue his career. Here he immersed himself in Paris’ rich artistic environment, exhibiting at many fine galleries.
