galeriemontmartre is based in Melbourne, Australia. Owned and run by Shelley and Stephan Trbuhovich, it is the culmination of years of collecting vintage posters from all over the world.

Stephan’s passion for French vintage poster art began a little less than a decade ago, with a number of eye-catching pieces hanging on the walls of a Californian restaurant he once dined in. Ever the collector (he also has a notorious collection of French ashtrays!) he began to take an interest in vintage poster images from Europe and the Americas. Years later, with the encouragement and interest of his partner, Shelley, the collection grew into an obsession. Given so much of their time involved with these images the obvious progression was to take this love to the general public.

Vermuth Carpano 1927 by Achille Mauzan. Mauzan's designs were often humorous, sometimes grotesque, but always effective!

Shelley and Stephan’s personal favourites are the French posters from the 20’s and 30’s from poster greats Leonetto Cappiello and Achille Mauzan. They also have a particular interest in the pieces produced by Raymond Savignac and Herve Morvan in the 50’s and 60’s. Their inventory ranges from the turn of the century through until the 1980’s. Each piece is hand selected to give balance to their collection, nothing is added that is not loved by the owners!!

Raymond Savignac has been described as the enfant terrible of French poster art, his style witty, 'cartoonish', colourful and simple in design. Here he poses with a number of his masterful works.
magazines of the early 1900’s, which feature lithographic works of prominent artists and are a great choice for those who love original work, but do not have the room for posters. If there is anything you particularly want, whether a specific image, artist or style, contact them for advice. They make frequent buying trips to gather new stock and meet with their dealers and gallery peers from all over the world.

Shelley and Stephan are hoping to bring vintage posters to a wider audience, particularly to Australians, where they are still relatively unknown. With an expanding knowledge and growing client base, they are very excited to share their passion for vintage poster art with you.
