Galerie Montmartre is Melbourne-based business, solely owned by Australian's Shelley Collins Trbuhovich & Stephan Trbuhovich.
Their love for vintage poster art began after a shared meal at a San Franciscan restaurant back in the mid-90’s. Stephan was completely taken by the oversized, graphic advertising pieces hanging on the walls and vowed to own one. Shelley then set about finding a source for such intriguing artwork - unwittingly starting a hobby for the pair that soon became a passion, eventually leading to the establishment of their own business.
On returning to Australia after seven years living in the United States, Shelley & Stephan launched Galerie Montmartre in October 2002 with an online gallery. The success of those humble e-commerce beginnings, which included showing their ever-growing collection from a storage facility in Abbotsford, paved the way to their joint dream of opening an expansive retail space in Stephan’s beloved Fitzroy neighbourhood in March 2007.
Galerie Montmartre today has Australasia’s vastest collection of original vintage advertising posters. With the unique perspective of being collectors first, Shelley & Stephan have stayed true to their belief that this is ‘art for the people’ - sourcing pieces of every style, era, size & most importantly, for every budget.
